mood *yawns*
listening to Maths lecture cum tutorial There's gotta be more to this. me thinks that conducting tutorial in a computer lab is a totally retarded idea. why? cos students end up doing this. anyways. NUS students get 20% discounts to watch Quidam. Been hearing so much about it and i'm burning in my seats to find out if it's really as good as people say. I would probably have flewn there if not for the leprechauns constantly roaming in the vicinity of my purse. Life hasn't been very friendly to me lately. All this JCRC saga is wearing me out, and with each passing day it very much feels as though i'm the scapegoat of all this internal hurly-burly. And this isn't even the beginning. Plus, if it does ever kick-start, i foresee that it's gonna be a lonely road anyway. But i'm not complaining, cos it would've been the same any other way. Things are just different now. so lets just sing the tune, baby! ![]() Friday, September 23, 2005
I've still got sands in my shoes.
I've got a tornado of emotions running through my mind now and i think i shan't bother to pen them down. I'm never good at that anyway. Certain things are just better off locked up and tucked away somewhere dark and safe, since it doesn't make any difference whether or not it's given voice. So the midterm holidays is GONE. noooooooooooooooo.... managed to settle some maths assignment, a bahasa indo essay, a teeny weeny bit of pathetic amino acid reading, one practice question of applied chemistry (does peeking at the answer count?) and that's all folks. pretty wasted as you can tell. But not too bad, honestly. at least i stayed off my bed considerably. some interesting things have been happening in the period of me being MIA. I've gotten myself a new fish tank, complete with a log with some plants growing on it plus 8 pretty goldfishes, i've gone to batam and come back, and i think i just landed myself in a pot of hot soup by joining Sheares Hall JCRC, Director of Special Function. For those of you who dont know what's JCRC, good for you. i dont feel like elaborating. The rally is next monday. one of my goldfishes, the one who looks like it's wearing lipstick, died yesterday evening. and this morning i woke up dreaming that the rest of the goldfishes ate up the ornamental log in the aquarium. I am such a retard. and i dont even watch TV. So while the rest of you were wasting your midterm break away sleeping or shopping or nua-ing on wednesday afternoon, yours truly were baking under Batam sun, scampering about visiting schools, classes, and interviewing indonesian kiddos. It was a field trip for the bahasa indonesia module i'm taking, and we gotta write a report out of it. But it was such a fulfilling trip, and i am glad that i decided to go for it instead of the Food Science trip to KL that was held on the same day, especially after i found out yesterday that Denyse and Keerling ended up not going since KeerLing got admitted to the hospital for her conjunctivitis plus she scratched her cornea or sth.. oh goodness.. can you pls get well soon.. so anyways, we visited this local high school and also a tiny dorm for the local financially-challenged primary school kids which was located further away from the city, on the outskirts of the island. The high school trip didnt leave me much impression, just the usual bunch of prepubescent kids in uniform. But the latter affected me quite a bit. Here goes. the pictures say it all. kids living at the dorm were 10-12 year olds and their parents were mostly fishermen, or labourers of some sorts who paid Rp. 180,000 (SGD$35 equivalent) a month for their kids to stay there, get some basic education, food and shelter. It was evident that the living conditions were extremely minimal, and the most of the kids walked around barefooted, even on the grimy, dirty soils. ![]() Shoes were somewhat a luxury and were kept on top of a cupboard tucked away elsewhere. The kids only wore them when they go home to their parents during the long holiday. Their weekends were also spent in the dorm. The head of the dorm divided the 64 kids into a few groups of 6-8 kids each, to play "host" to us, the ignoramus city-kids. They were sitting quietly in their seats and the moment the headmaster gave them the cues to start entertaining their assigned "guests", the kids assigned to my group immediately sprung out of their seats like some happy puppies and started frolicking around Seaton, excitedly grabbing his hands and leading him out of the room, leaving me, rudy and the other girl tailing behind. They've probably never seen a caucasian before, making Seaton a preferred exotic specimen. :D The kids led us to a little river bank at the back of the dorm, their favourite hang-out place, while we talked to them and tried to get to know about their lives, which we needed for the report. It's just mind-blowing how blissful and carefree they are. While most of us fret over not being able to get the latest zara blouse/handphone/laptop/car/boyfriend/girlfriend or not being able to get a CAP 5.0 or not having enough moolah to spend, these kids are contented with simple pleasures like watching ants fight, setting traps for iguanas, playing badminton with worn-out racquets and catching crabs in the river.
There are many more photos we took, but loading them up using blogger is such a chore, i think i'll just leave them where they are. The kids sang us the Sayonara song (Indonesian version of Auld Lang Syne) when we were preparing to leave, and chased after our bus a little when we were leaving. I wanted to load the photo too.. but the loading page just timed out. grargh.
It's during moments like these that i wish i have all the money in the world, that maybe, just maybe, i could make their lives a little better. maybe buy them new shoes.
Have you any idea how LONG it took me to blog this single entry? stupid blogger is super photos unfriendly. but oh well, the crux of this entry is that, it had been an eventful week. I wont lie by saying that i'm in my best of moods and everything is nice and dandy. Many things are just wrong, and i'm in a jumbled, inarticulated emotional mess. Dont come asking, i may not answer. and i suppose it's so much easier to love than to drain your brain juice thinking of creative ways of making the world a miserable place. ![]() mood tickled

listening to I Wish You Love by Ono Lisa i never knew i love sunflowers so much til i have one in my room. I love how everytime my eyes scan the contents of my little dwelling they just instantly return to this pretty yellow thing. The sunflower was courtesy of Liwei for buaya week closing. i love it i love it i love it. I think i get attached to things fairly easily. If you realise, the bottle where i put my sunflower also has a tiny inhabitant (argh, picture can't load) - a red fighting fish. Gave it to Liwei but he put it in my room since he wont be around for the weekend. Just over an unbelievably short period of 2 days and i'm attached to it already. it's such a pretty thing. Don't feel like giving it back. *hugs bottle tightly* Had a good hour to myself in the utterly gross block D kitchen making pasta salad for the combined cg later. I've forgotten how good it feels to cook. it was one of the best hour i've had in days, even with the cleaning, washing and all. argh i love sunflowers and fighting fish. can't stand it. ![]() Friday, September 16, 2005
listening to Dying by Five for Fighting
cream cheese spread and strawberry jam made me miss my mum. and everything else. The solitude, escapade, away from the crazy world. ![]() image courtesy of this cool illustrator which i love.mood pfft listening to Angel Eyes by Jim Brickman And talking about that song alone deserve another brand new post altogether. i'm missing those times bad. expectation management. expectation management. inhale. exhale. in hale. exhale. expectation management is the key. *chants* just a super duper quickie, buaya week came to a closing today. Got a sunflower and some nice things from liwei, and some chocolates from my buaya, whom i think is rather miffed at me perhaps for complaining too much about not enough buaya-ing on his part. hey come on, you would too if you see people getting flowers, delivered suppers, chocolates, soft toys and all sorts of things hanging in the lift, and you're getting a plastic spoon. and some breakfast. and some chocolates too. but all in the name of good fun. so i suppose after receiving news of my grouchiness, he cooked up some stunts thingymagy together with the level 6 guys which involved tealight candles shaped into a heart with Haagen Dazs macadamia ice cream and a pink rose assembled on an IKEA stool. ok i was a little impressed, though more of feeling guilty. Not at all surprised, because prior to that i could hear them scampering about outside my room in an attempt to block my door using tricks of some sorts so that i couldn't come out while they were assembling the stuff in the kitchen. And the amusing part was, all the while i was looking at them through my peephole. If i had just barged out pretending to be wanting to go to the toilet or something, it would have been such a spoiler, you think? But honestly, i think the best part of my buayee cameo was really the IKEA stool on which the candles were assembled, which i got to keep. It was TURQUOISE!!!! hahaha. look at my layout and an idiot would have probably deciphered that it spells turquoise. was actually contemplating buying that stool a while back. now it's mine. mwahaha. so... oh, bought a charm bracelet-looking bracelet at the bazaar today (yes, bazaar again, i know), just that it has some seashell pendants hanging on it instead of the normal looking charms. it was 5 buckeroos only, so cheap! think me may want to get more. i'm such a bazaar freak. i need some TLC so bad. ok sleep. ![]() Monday, September 12, 2005
mood heavylistening to Scar by Missy Higgins ok. so my blog has been in hiatus for quite a while now. thought it might be decent to just drop by as an indication that i'm still walking, breathing, living and talking. voluntarily and involuntarily. how ironic. Buaya week opening last friday! it's so funny to see the corridors and lifts suddenly strewn with all sorts of posters, cheesy love poems and horny pick up lines (a fake bikini hanging on the wall????), even though my buaya is apparently missing in action. hmpf. so it seems like my last buaya week in sheares is regrettably going to be yet another quiet affair. squeak. i've got an imaginary lump that weighs a tonne strapped to my back. It comes in the form of 2 consecutive tests this wednesday and thursday, some emotional turmoil, and basically just feeling unsettled and more or less pretty downright miserable. have you ever known the feeling of running into a little dead end corner? you sort of realise that all there is on your left and right are but walls, and you're jolted out of your stupor, as though someone just fished you roughly out of your nice little make-believe world.. ya, that feeling. it's become my best friend for a while now. was sharing some things with rudy yesterday, which made me have an epiphany about myself. expectation management really is the pillow that cushions your fall when disappointment hits. and i haven't been keeping a very nice pillow for myself for the past few years, resulting in me always getting hurt and just very angry with people. pastor once said, when you put your expectation in people, disappointment is bound to be around the corner. but i just never learn. so i guess this is it.. i'm just gonna retreat a little, put my best foot a little behind, unhook all the emo attachment i've scattered, and take back that piece of myself that i gave. just in case. why is it that the magic just don't last? why doesn't the grass just stay green on my side so that i don't always have to uproot myself where i thought i could find comfort? i'm not angry. i'm just very sad, how things eventually become like this when they really didn't have to. *shrug* another yenny-case. i hate it how tears just start to well up everytime i talk about these things. They choke me up, give me very bad nose block and make me unable to put my point across. think rudy must be a little traumatised by now. so i don't think i'm gonna take chances anymore, because more often than not things are just simply gonna stagnate back to mediocrity. a mere phase. But no matter, it's time to move on. 'cause if i go someplace where they are nonexistent they probably wont matter so much. maybe it's just meant to be like that. G: things dont have to change as long as we stay the same. F: ok, i shall print out this conversation and shove it in your face the next time you start drifting away. G: ... haha. thanks, i needed that. :) ----- How Great is Our God by Chris Tomlin The splendor of the King Clothed in majesty Let all the earth rejoice, let all the earth rejoice He wraps Himself in light And darkness tries to hide It trembles at His voice, it trembles at His voice How great is our God Sing with me How great is our God All will see how great, how great is our God Age to age He stands And time is in His hands Beginning and the end, beginning and the end The Godhead three in one Father, Spirit, Son The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb Name above all names Worthy of all praise My heart will sing How great is our God Make me more like you, Lord. ![]() |
