mood: wet.
hooked on to: Just the two of us by Bill Withers

My sole surviving guppy (which i pessimistically think isn't gonna live long) is either very stupid or semi-blind. It seems like it's hungry. And while it does it's pokey-pokey movement in search of the crumbs, it misses completely those which just dropped on its head. Do guppies have a sense of touch? enlighten me, somebody.
For the past day it's been swimming around the tank in somewhat jerky movements before proceeding to settle at the bottom of the tank amongst the oxygen crystals for the rest of the hour. Recuperating? resting? thinking of how to eat? or grieving the loss of its companion which departed to a better place (the dustbin) yesterday?

anyways.

went to meet monica this afternoon, after much dilly-dallying for the past month. Received my ultra belated birthday present, which reminds me that i still haven't gotten hers. ^^"
She told me i look like i lost weight. Now people, that was the cue to laugh.
yes, go on. remember to wipe that tear off your eye. done? sitting down still?
oh well, either she is very blind, or we haven't seen each other for seriously too long a time.

I'm halfway through The curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon, a christmas present rudy got me, together with the sinfully comfy bed cover which is guilty hands down for those mornings i was unable to get myself out of bed.
An interesting book written through the eyes and with the mind of an autistic individual who doesn't eat yellow-coloured food and knows every prime number up to 7,057.
This is such a light-hearted read because the nature of the novel makes it such that it uses moderately simple english in autistically unique (no such term i'm sure but you get the idea) long sentences.
Unlike Anna and mister God, a fabulous book which was so absorbing that 3/4 of the time i was trying to capture the author's thoughts in phrases & sentences instead of concentrating on the flow of the story.

So in Mark Haddon's words, an account of my morning would probably be like this:

I got out of bed at a quarter to twelve. It was very late i know but the weather was cool and rainy and i just could not help it. I walked to the bathroom to brush my teeth and shower and then came back to my room and got changed. I wore a black top with a pair of beige pants and it took me a very long time to decide because all my clothes look almost the same anyway and it's a bit difficult to choose when you have so little clothes in your wardrobe. I did not have time for breakfast so i just ate one walnut cookie which suzanne gave me for christmas and left for orchard at approximately half past twelve.

that was bad. anyway of course the book isn't so mundane.

off i go!

mood: bloated
hooked on to: Boat Parade by Five for Fighting

Life, inspite of all its blind corners and cruel valleys, is such a pleasure to live. A predictable rollercoaster ride indeed, for God promises to lift us up at our low points, yet coerced us into understanding that a bed of roses, life is not.

It's simply impossible to chronologically re-live my daily happenings in blog entries. yes yes, laziness aside, there are just too many things to tell.

Spent the whole of today being holed up in hall and settling my mundane resolutions. Seriously, it helps to write down your to-do list, print it large and pin it in a place where they can't escape your lazy eyes. ok correction, my lazy eyes.

Currently, written on a bright, blinding yellow piece of half A4 sized paper are as follows:

  • Change the fish tank water
  • Download the softwares & configure Palmtop
  • Draw out next semester's calendar
  • Read Bible (in caps)
  • Read organic chem notes
  • Sweep & mop the floor
  • Drink more water
  • Practice guitar

As the result, i've been religiously topping up my mug with water and faithfully downing gulps of it whenever my eyes get hold of that blessed little yellow paper. *rushes off to drink more water* Water is good. it prevents constipation, relieves chapped lips, improves complexion & flush out body toxins. Prevents dehydration too.
And why am i blabbering about H2O? lets move on, shall we?

Staring at my nice, clean fish tank which ironically contains a sick guppy (yes, again), having my feet rubbing against the scruffy clean floor and once in a while stealing a few glances at my nicely drawn out and calligraphed January-April calendar pinned on the corkboard, For once, the day has been quite productive.

I'm having such hard time trying to figure out how my stupid Palmtop functions. 2 years ago it was the newest model on the market fetching 700bucks. Of course that was before i foolishly entrusted it to gideon to help me with the configuration and downloads because after aimlessly anticipating its return for 1 and half year, we are back to square uno. Collected enough dust, check. Nil downloads, check. Default settings, check. Just like a cake fresh from the oven and left uneaten for 2 years until it grows mould.

man, dont you just love gideon? =)

now this worthless palmtop has depreciated in value to a seventh of its original price, being one of the few mammoth-years-ago editions. and the best part is, i still haven't quite figured out how maximise this stupid thing's ability to keep one organised. Man, I'm not technologically illiterate for nothing.

Gideon, where is my Love Actually soundtrack CD???

Meeting up with Rudy for dinner & coffee yesterday night was such a delightful affair. Talked & walked the night away in my new Ralph Lauren specs which Rudy convinced me to buy.
It's this considerably thick dark brown plastic frame which according to Rudy made me look like a Borders lady boss. *insert appropriate emoticons here*
But i love my new specs. The comfortable frame plus its superb workmanship no doubt earned its Ralph logo and its rather exorbitant price considering Felicia's lets-live-frugally theory.

Don't laugh.

hooked on to: Do you have a little time by Dido

If my legs can speak, they're probably spewing a string of nasty remarks at their merciless owner (a.k.a. yours truly) for treating them so shabbily and making them work OT with no extra pay.
Been walking non-stop for a grand total of 13 hours. A feat indeed, considering the fact that i was supposed to be resting in hall and doing some serious research while immersing myself in a profoundly contemplative mood on the benefits of Interior Design over Food science & Tech and vice versa.
and oh, did i mention that i was supposed to be broke. So ask me why i ended up buying a top and uh.. something else. Blame it on suzanne. she just had to buy so many things and making me awfully tempted in the process. hmpf. i am afterall not just supposed to be broke, but really am broke. haha.

met up with rudy for breakfast at cosi in the morning, which was a yummy affair. So dear, remember my spacious kitchen next time or starve you shall! *evil laugh*
The walk talk shop session with suzanne lasted all the way til 11 plus, afterwhich the two exhausted but happy and broke princesses trudged back to hall with breaking legs.

my two guppies seem to be socialising very well, if you consider chasing each other around the tank socialising. silly little things. Well i guess as long as it doesn't involve either one of them ceasing to breathe or floating on the surface of the water, i'm fine. really.

hmm.. one of my guppies seem to be well on the way to obesity. it's developing a paunch! alamak...

mood: slightly disappointed
hooked on to: Have a talk with God by Erana Leef

i am officially declaring myself a lazy blogger. Been 4 days since i last blogged, afterwhich my life has been quite happening. wish i could blog about it now, but unfortunately some mental constipation seem to overrule whatever excitement that the past 3 days have accumulated. Reason being, i just got back my results. and no cookie point for guessing whether it's good or bad.

Somehow i guessed that it wouldn't be that fantastic, i just didn't think it would be so bad. I had it in mind to let go and let God. Afterall, God has been so very good to me the past few months; all the spiritual encounters, unspeakable love, countless blessings, one of which comes in the form of somebody who's probably reading this now. :)

Nevertheless, seeing my grades felt as though God has just placed two giant arms on each side of my shoulder and gave me a major jerk (add a poke in the ribs), telling me that it's high time i get my lazy bum out of my comfortable bed (literally and figuratively). Man, my bed is comfortable.

so anyway, just needed to get it out of my system. now i'm done. ta-da!

mood: exhausted. and broke. very.

Just came back from carolling... Christmas@Orchard was a blast. The church dancers and vocalists look like they jumped out from some Mtv movie clips and Vogue magazines, while us choir, their more inferior counterparts, had to loiter around til it was our turn to show up. Been standing on my feet til my stomach actually feel sore. At this rate i might actually slim down (ok, who am i kidding).
Erana Leef & Hugh Wilson's song items were so breath-taking. i wish i could sing like that too. =)

Rudy is sick. and seeing him so ill makes me feel a bit at loss... wish there's something i can do.

i can't blog anymore. need to sleep badly. Keep tuning in. No signal at the moment. man, my brain is fried.

mood: rather speechless
hooked on to: Vivo Sonhando by Astrud Gilberto

Today is a homie day.
I'm growing increasingly attached to my room as i hereby claim my little space in sheares hall D506. And so people question, how do you define home? To which i could only soak myself in one of those paradoxical yet somehow enlightening contemplative mood. In the figments of my imagination i put a right foot forward into my future and i see myself having a residence to call my own. And i thought, home that would surely be.

Yet, the idea of home being solely embodied in a clever or sophisticated physical arrangement of bricks and tiles does not quite convict. And so i pondered, is it the familiarity of the surroundings we have grown so used to that makes home so intriguingly intimate?

Then i thought, that if i could wake up every morning looking into the same deep eyes, enveloped in the familiar fuzzy warmth, the brush of his hand and lips, the same old poke and tickle, who cares if home is an igloo in the seclusion of North pole, a tree house atop the canopy of the Arizonian forest, or a nomadic tent on the Andalusian plains.

People struggle to conquer life, to swallow it whole in all its glory and complexity. To wriggle ourselves out of every single shithole we've inevitably fallen into as we cruise along our mortal journey, fair or foul. To understand certain things not meant to be comprehended by worldly wisdom. To seek comfort, rather forlornly, in attempting to justify our very own perspectives instead of lifting our hands in complete surrender and humility.

I closed my eyes, and in the comfort of the gentle Spirit residing within, i understood. That for as long as i carry His presence in every fibre of my being, as i give my life just like He gave His,
i'm home.
i always have been.

why don't you come back home?

mood: tired
hooked on to: If i never get to heaven by Javier.

I typed this post halfway yesterday while desperately fighting a battle to stop my eyelids from drooping and doing a shut-down act. a tiring day it had been, after the meagre 4 hours sleep the previous day and whatnot. physically beat. emotionally a little drained. Cookie monster is afterall blue.

And when my heart is overwhelmed, O Lord, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

There are so many thoughts i'm dying to pen down. In the past 2 weeks of my blogging comatose, events have come and gone and my mood has been fluctuating up and down like the tip of the weighing scale (yours truly). The only difference is that the former bobs up and down while the latter goes up and stays there for a good long time. Ah.. exams have passed by and left, ushered by the strangely peaceful way my heart bids them farewell. Let go and let God, as you may call it. and letting God take charge never fails to provide much relief.

Me and suzanne's great plan materialised on 7th December in the form of a 3D2N Bintan trip with mark, clement, gabriel & wenlee. more on that later.

Monday 6th December. met up with Rudy for an outrageously filling breakfast at Killiney, afterwhich i proceeded to collect the Bintan tickets from the travel agency. My emotional tank must have unscrewed itself a little loose that day because as i wandered alone around Citylink, browsed the books at MPH, strolled down the street to Peninsula Plaza, everything felt so strangely surreal. Maybe it was the cool rainy weather. Maybe it was the gray clouds. Maybe it was the Paulo Coelho book i had been reading.
All of a sudden i felt unusually aware of my surroundings. Streams of people rushed past. tired, happy, business-like, meticulously dolled up, I wondered what kind of lives they lead. I tried to imagine what's on their minds. Were they just contemplating what's up for lunch, or are they like me, creating scenarios of their lives in their head, where the past, present and future converge into a point of realisation, that the Hand that connected them all is still in works and moving.

An old man in ragged clothes was squatting by the side of the road, a cigarette in his mouth. I wondered if he ever knew what life had had to offer. A young man donning the ubiquitous white long-sleeved shirt was standing outside a third-class jewellery shop desperately trying to hand out flyers to seemingly uninterested passers-by. myself not exempted. Paper wastage has always been high on my no-no list. I thought to myself, is this all that he ever wants out of his life? to gain cheap satisfaction from the few people who bothered to extend a hand and took a miserable piece of paper? be it out of sympathy or the sheer attempt to brush him away.
I did a merry-go-round around Peninsula Plaza in search for the almost non-existent travel agency. A mildly expressionless young lady sat behind the long table of the tiny office. She was dressed in the standard office wear; A reasonably decent long shirt and a black A line skirt. Was dressing up just face her 2 colleagues in the minuscule travel agency, which i daresay must have led a lot of people to frustration with its impossibly UN-strategic location, ever an enjoyable thing to look forward to? How sad it is for a girl to dress up only for herself to see.

And as i took a second look at these people, i looked at myself. There are so many things i want to do, so many things i'm looking forward to learning. I look ahead into the future, and as i drown in the loss of ability of speech, all i see within is longing, hope. and all i know is that whatever that God has placed in store for me, i want them all so very badly.

Borrowed Waylon's keyboard this morning to practice for the upcoming Hall Opening Ceremony performance. My inadequacy saddens me so much. I so badly want to pick up piano again. The language of music seems so familiar yet so foreign. so near yet so far. so seemingly easy yet so difficult to conquer.

I want so much out of life. And life wants so much out of me. It sounds deceivingly symbiotic. And yet, Life to me is no less than a game of tug-of-war. Here i am pulling so hard at the rope, and a divine force at the other end demands just as much.

Days have passed, and my desperate attempt to relive that day's emotion seem a little futile, if not foolish. Listening to If i never get to heaven by Javier, If you believe and Angel's eyes by Jim Brickman on my itune list back to back (it's the coincidental alphabetical order), tearing doesn't seem like a stupid thing to do.

...

This is a little anticlimax. but congratulate me. i just finished half a can of Pringles. swimming pool, here i come.

mood: bloated
listening to: Do you have a little time by Dido

no Incredibles but incredibly broke.

The title of my post today is quite self-explanatory. Little pleasures dont come cheap afterall. It seems as though there are leprechauns sneaking moolah out of my wallet while i sleep.
Went to the dentist yesterday and 55 bucks sprouted wings and flew away just like that. And being the bearer of bad news that dentists have always been, this time round is no exception. 4 cavities parasitically residing in my teeth are gonna make me 100-over bucks poorer very very soon. Talk about a jolly season. bah. humbug.

Rudy just got an ipod. what a pretty little thing. =)
Yesterday, was supposed to catch the Incredibles with rudy, mark, alex & wen lee. And lets just say that some of us aren't exactly the best outing planner or grab-stuff-go-out kinda folks. so as foreseen, the movie outing was a flop.
Ended up spending the whole afternoon window shopping around, ended up at an ethnic fair at Hyatt hotel, which i tremendously enjoyed. absolutely inspiring.
Got a beaded belt which i'd been eyeing at the science bazaar some time back but never got down to purchasing. Therefore when i spotted it again yesterday, i concluded, with much delight, that some divine intervention or forces of nature must have taken pity on my indecisiveness. and Voila. out flew another 28 bucks.

I realised, that if a girl could tolerate walking for 9 hours in painful strappy sandals, she most probably can tolerate any form of crap that comes her way.

Good news, no? ;)

Met up with my mum and auntie today, afterwhich we went to Borders cos my auntie wanted to get some fresh air and some books. Rudy's first encounter with mum dearest. not too intimidating i hope.

no mood to blog.. i think it evaporated somewhere around the third paragraph. or was it the anchovy chips an arm's reach away which has a cumulative distraction factor? yes i think so. guilty little sea creatures.
However, looking at the bigger picture, i think the loss came a few months back. sigh.

Sometimes i wonder if good things in life come with the compulsory barter trade policy. do we have to give up a certain portion of what we hold precious to our heart in exchange with something else? things or words which evoked much tears and emotions, do they still possess their novelty or has it faded away along with the inevitable conquest of time over our lives, such that when we look back on our lives, we're forced to admit that little treasures have just dropped out of our pockets as we reach for others.
And that as we grow up in body and thoughts, the inner child in us dies a little.
The familiar faces walks around in larger circles. further. distant. until they can be seen no more.

I Woke up, got my lazy ass out of bed
I Watered all the rocks growing in my head
I Had a thought...and fell asleep on you...

_Disneyland by Five for Fighting

I'm gonna put all my thoughts under the pillow and sleep on them. To wake up and realise, for the umpteenth time, how good the Lord has been, and is going to continue to be.

=)
