mood: tired.
hooked on to: Daughters by John Mayer.
this is an extremely quickie post before i set off in 10min's time for cellgroup.
hands are feeling itchy so i just gotta type something.
went jogging with mark and weijian yesterday. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? felicia the turtle went running. considering the last not-so-nice joggin experience where my cramps nearly made me faint and i ended up lying on the pavement in front of pasta fresca in the desperate attempt to ease my throbbing head.
yesterday as i was running up the slope in front of fac of arts, God knows why and how, i managed to un-balance myself, trip, nearly did a kiss-the-ground act and sprained my left ankle in the process.
God. mark has probably had enough share of witnessing felicia at her most unglam and unfortunate moments.
continued running nonetheless, since it wasnt very serious.
however, woke up this morning having difficulty walking and now i gotta limp my way out of hall. i'm such a loser when it comes to keeping fit.
gotta run.. i'm so excited about cellgroup today, no idea why. something good is gonna happen. :)

2nd post of this long, sleepless night.
i'm in love with the song When I Look To The Sky by Train. :)
When it rains it pours and opens doors
And floods the floors we thought would always keep us safe and dry
And in the midst of sailing ships we sink our lips into the ones we love
That have to say goodbye
And as I float along this ocean
I can feel you like a notion that won't seem to let me go
Cause when I look to the sky something tells me you're here with me
And you make everything alright
And when I feel like I'm lost something tells me you're here with me
And I can always find my way when you are here
And every word I didn't say that caught up in some busy day
And every dance on the kitchen floor we didn't dance before
And every sunset that we'll miss I'll wrap them all up in a kiss
And pick you up in all of this when I sail away
Whether I am up or down or in or out or just plane overhead
Instead it just feels like it is impossible to fly
But with you I can spread my wings to see me over everything that life may send me
When I am hoping it won't pass me by
And when I feel like there is no one that will ever know me,
there you are to show me...
the time now is 5.30am.. i'm gonna call it a day soon.. how and when am i gonna wake up tomorrow? well, we shall worry about it tomorrow. i mean later.
lessons which i learnt today :
1. There's no such thing as a short nap. it's either a nice, long, pig sleep or nothing at all.
2. In a Polymerase Chain Reaction, DNA sample is separated into single strands and incubated with DNA Polymerase and 2 primers whose sequence flank the DNA segment of interest.
3. When the alarm clock rings in the morning and you tell yourself "5 more minutes", you are deceiving yourself. period.
4. Primers direct DNA Polymerase to synthesise complementary strands of target DNA.
5. Munchie Monkey's breaded chicken salad and bolognese lasagna are good. so is Engin cafe's hazelnut cheesecake. :)
6. Primers anneal to complementary sequence on each DNA strand and the DNA Polymerase extends the primers.
7. ulcers are evil little things. seriously.
and looking at the list of things i've learnt, it adds on to lesson #8.
when you see yourslef turning into a geek, do something about it.
5.45am.. i might as well not sleep.

when things seem too much, let your hair down, dump your notes, unclutter your mind and BLOG.
and the title of my post this lovely evening explains why i'm typing this entry.
while the practical part of me yells helplessly within, "get off your laptop and do work!", sometimes we just gotta take pleasure in ignoring and shuting off that pesky politically-correct sounding statement once in a while. seriously.
the past two weeks have been crazily jam-packed with work, work , work and more work. throw in a couple of cheap thrills in the form of unnecessarily extended breakfast/lunch/dinner/supper. but other than that, my life nowadays revolve only around lecture theatres, hall and all around campus. did i mention hall?
at times, looking at myself derives only guilt pangs and an undying desire to break free of this cage in which everyone seems to be trapped in a rat race that sees no end.
guilt. because i know that somehow i could have tried harder. so near yet so far. so easy yet so difficult.
i hate mediocrity. and it annoys me that i'm walking so near the edge of it that i could just easily fall if i dont tread carefully enough.
it's making me restless that i'm seeing myself being capable of evolving into something i hate the most. and i'm going to do something about it.
my memory has become unrecognisably bad. these few days' past happenings just dont seem to register to me anymore. my brain is like an expired and dried up super glue that helplessly attempts to stick pieces of information into the collage of my mind, only to find at the end of the day that the collage is but a bare, biased piece of cardboard that pettily retains only things i subconciously want to keep. other than that, it's au revoir.
i have no doubt that this only proves how mundane my academics obligations have become. going through the motion just doesnt work. how on earth do you remember mundane things?? but as much as it seems as though i'm pathetically trying to justify myself, i'm being honest by admitting that i'm not trying hard enough.
a peek into how stress has inevitably manifested itself in my life :
3 lab reports, 2 tutorials due last week, CMB meeting and hockey training on monday, i cant believe i cant remember what i did on tuesday, BMB meeting and volleyball training on wednesday, stats test today, Band concert today (phew), life science test tmr (EMERGENCY!), chem in space quiz tmr, FST project due 8th november, final exams in 3 weeks and counting.
my life has been going at such a bullet-train speed that if it goes any faster i can just bury myself in a hole and retreat into seclusion until the sandstorm of time dies down. life's passing me by at such an amazing rate that i'm constantly half-expecting myself to get sucked into some warped time tunnel and wake up realising that what i've thought was reality is just a ride on an imaginary carousel around the galaxy of time.
and yet, at the end of the day, i still have a certain confidence that things are going to turn out just okay. because He promised so. and that's all that matters. that's all that i need.
and all things work together for good to those who loves God. =)

mood: kinda stressed.
listening to: The Waltz by Silje Nergaard
a quick post before bed.
if there's a word to describe how i'm feeling at this very minute, right down to the seconds, it would be disorganised.
ok, words are cheap. so lets be generous.
disorganised, dislocated, stressed up, bummed out, nerve-wrecked, fed up with school.
there.
this week has been and is going to continue being a crazy week. 3 lab reports due, a 1000-words essay on Big Bang theory and the prehistory of the earth (somebody just shoot me), 2 tutorials, one of which was pretty messed up and another one screwed inside up upside down. never have i attended a chemistry tutorial where i totally caught no ball.
it felt scary sitting in the midst of the classroom and realising that your neighbours knew what was going on even if they said that they dont. well at least they know something.
ask me what is an sp2 orbital and how to calculate formal charge and i may jolly well frustrate you with my idiocy.
2 tests coming next week and the week after next. i think.
is it not a vicious cycle, that you fall into a mercilessly deep abyss of workloads, trying so hard to keep yourself afloat amidst the crazy mug-wave, only to come out of it jaded, torn, worn-out, and to fall into the same shithole all over again the next semester.
it's during times like this that i cant help but re-think everything that felt so right before. is it time for me to re-assemble my puzzle of principles and perceptions all over again? energizer is running out. i cant seem to muster the energy to run.
hall life is taking its toll on me too. i seem to have become a hermit crab on the verge of shutting myself in my shell. the social butterfly looks like she's losing her wings.. or wait a sec, has she just died?
it's 4.25am now.. the coffee worked surprisingly well. i want to do some more work, but lecture is at the ungodly hour of 9am tmr.. oh trust me, once you come out of JC alive, you just wouldnt be able to go back to the same 7am-wake-up-stand-up-sing-song anymore.
urgh.. to bed it is..

mood: groggy
hooked on to: Miss you finally by Trademark.
i am screwed screwed screwed and i feel sick.
was supposed be dating my books yesterday but ended up doing God-knows-what. ripped off quite a few mp3s from alan's shared folder. spent quite a while sorting them. rather unsuccessfully may i add. devoted about an hour trying to convince gabriel of his innocence. and when i finally succumbed to my beckoning books, i dont think i accomplished much either. slept at close to 4am, woke up at 7.15 for morning lecture, which i totally slept through. tried SO HARD to keep myself awake but i just couldn't. it took me every single fibre of my being and every ounce of energy left trying to listen to prof talking about how histidine changes to histimine (what on earth are those, i have no idea), writing notes while closing my eyes to recuperate but off i went to somewhere-out-there. right under his nose.
had it in mind to skip stats lecture since he'll be teaching hypothesis testing (interesting really). was eating almond biscotti and making my way out of science fac when rudy called. so upon encouragement i attended the lecture. which i came out of after 15minutes. seriously the lecturers nowadays are so disappointing. they draw monthly salaries equivalent to my 1 year's allowance (or is it 2?), a few hundred sakae sushi meals, a few thousands grinning gecko pastas JUST to fill up an hour and a half of time slot talking in undecipherable languages.
came back to hall to sleep. got promptly woken up my my faithful alarm clock at 12.30. but couldnt quite make it and lazed around some more. and speaking of lazing around, what am i doing blogging????
i think at this rate the bugs are just gonna make a party out of me soon. already the headaches are getting persistent.
off i go. hopefully to productive studying.

mood: unwell inside out.
hooked on to: Like lovers do by Heather Nova.
i've never been very good with dates and remembering events. i have to strain even to remember what i had for lunch yesterday. but the past week has been so eventful, i just never want the memories to slip through the my mind, lost amidst the streams of thoughts inevitably polluting my mind everyday.
hall life has been getting increasingly annoying to keep up with. if you would care to step out of your small miserable circle of gossip pals and quit the match-making exercises that you've been finding pathetic joy in, you would realise that life is more than a game of permutation and combination. tell me you flunked your A level maths and i may not quite believe you.
if watching every single person's moves and eavesdropping every single conversation exhanged actually makes your day, do everybody a favour (or should i rather say, those little left who are still sane), and let your brain do a quick check with your words before you let it out of your mouth.
i'm sorry if you think i'm not being nice. as i've always said, at the end of the day i'm just me. take it or leave it.

mood: "homely"
hooked on to: Iris by Goo Goo Dolls.
a lazy day INDEED.
If there is a self-declared slacker day for university students, then today *ta-da* is definitely one to be reserved for felicia deanne tiaras.
Of course that is not considering the philosophy that my mugging partner and i have come to believe, that everyday is a lazy day afterall.
after sleeping a meagre two hours the previous day after a reasonably productive mugging session at SDE but being amazingly awake the next day, i guess today was like a defiant force of nature in the attempt to shift the position of equilibrium of
mugging + little sleep = inevitable lethargy
back to its supposed stoichiometrical equivalence.
oh GOD! what has lab reports done to me???
anyway, the above conclusion came after some mental calculation done that concludes, with much guilt pangs, that i have been sleeping a total of 10 hours today. i drifted right back to dreamland after breakfast and slept straight through 4 and half hours worth of itune music from Norah Jones to Swithfoot, waking up having missed lunchtime.
all in the knowing that probably half of those minutes and seconds should have been devoted to serve better purposes such as completing my never ending streams of deadline-accompanied lab reports.
but thanks to my recently discovered stamina in mugging, one more to go and i'm finally ahead of time. =)
no lab today, skipped CM lecture, which i should have started doing some time ago. so today is a totally lazy day. choir practice later, which i'm now considering skipping since briony wont be around to teach me the chords for the praise songs, and i have work to finish.
I got into sheares band. yay! i auditioned for keyboard but at the meeting yesterday i realised that my band leader wants me to play guitar instead since i know how to play and they are short of guitarist. which means that most probably i'll have to learn how to play with electric guitar. alex loh zheng hui are u listening?? oh my. the road ahead is long. so many things to learn, so little time.
but i'm just so thankful for all the things that have been happening, for my vision is finally taking form. and He who starts a good work in us is faithful to bring it to completion.
along the pathway of life, God placed so much exciting discoveries along the sidewalks, hidden amidst the flowers. stop for a while and look. for you never know what is awaiting you.
i have never been good with words. i get tongue-tied in the sheer attempt to spill out my hearts, not that i am unwilling. you ask me, what are you smiling at? i know the answer not. you lay yourself bare, i know not what to give. you gaze at me, i can only gaze back. and hope that all i have within is written in my eyes. and that the understanding reaches you somehow. and when doubt comes knocking both sides, find comfort in knowing that amidst them all, His voice speaks the clearest. and He is smiling at us.
Don't the most moving moments of our lives find us without words? :)

mood: sing-song.
playing in my head: The Reason by Hoobastank.
changes = progress.
i havent been blogging as often as i think i should. reason numero uno being i've been so occupied with stuff . serious stuff, menial stuff, obligatory stuff, just-for-fun stuff.
you know, just stuff.
reason number two being, when felicia switches to the slack mode, she stays there for a long time.
just came back from the bandroom practicing for tmr's audition. learned to play drums for the first time in my life and i think i've fallen in love with it.
and considering the fact that i was stuck to the drumset for a good two hours, i've come to the conclusion that playing drums has an addictive effect. what other objects can possibly have the ability to make me stray away from the thought of impending deadlines for lab reports, tutorials and readings?
oops.
i just realised that there are actually plenty. things like suzanne knocking on my door for girl talk, a lets-paint-the-town-red shopping appointment, a supper invitation, and my bed. and my guitar. and lets stop discussing them lest temptation gets the better of me.
this is a lousy and pointless blog entry which probably makes you think "so what is your point?"
but guess what, i've just forgotten what i wanted to blog about. i'll resume when i remember. after i play my guitar. =)
